Most sizing happens in Excel models that scale up a "typical day." Component sizes are guessed, then iteratively adjusted. Economics gets calculated in a second tool, PV in a third, subsidy eligibility in a fourth.
Professional optimization tools exist — but they are complex and far from practice-oriented. They solve the math problem but don't translate it into the daily workflow of consultancies and planning offices.
The result: slow proposals, oversized systems, missed subsidies, weak business cases.
